MY LIFE IS ART

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

1. I've been married to my handsome husband for 20 years. We have two girls in college. One is getting ready to graduate while the other is getting started. They are the perfect blend of the two of us. Smart, funny, fun, beautiful, caring, stubborn (lol)...

2. I love Fall and Winter. But if I lived somewhere other than Florida, I would probably love spring and fall.

3. If you ask me my favorite color, I will probably say green. I have claimed it as my favorite color pretty much my whole life. But it’s a color I don’t own a lot of. What I gravitate to changes regularly.

4. I am a glass half full and can I fill your glass up kind of person but I can be very critical of myself. I think that’s part of my centered brainedness (is that even a word?)

5. I see beauty and good in everything which is why I started DiscARTed by KT. “The new and the old, the worn out and the discarded are all blended together to show there is beauty in everything.” A lot of what I do is work with discarded items and turning them into art. Sometimes it’s sculptures, sometimes it’s using something unusual for a canvas and then there are times when I am using more traditional items. I love to be able to repurpose something that someone put their own time, energy and love into.

6. I have done art all of my life but never thought I would be doing it full time. Dunedin Fine Art Center broke ground the year we moved to Florida and we lived in the neighborhood right behind it. The first class I remember was an oil painting class around age 8. I still have my painting of the cliff along the water. I remember my pottery instructor’s name was Art. I loved that. My friend Jenn is the reason I really started to do art more full time. She has been an amazing cheerleader and best friend. I say she is my agent. She would say I don’t do anything she tells me and I need to put myself out there. Thank you for that. I also wouldn't be doing art if it wasn't for my husband. He built me the "Art Shed" in the backyard and I love it. His support means so much to me.

7. I love to learn but never liked school. I hate being tested. I read everything I saw growing up. Well, except most books. I don’t know how I loved to read but hated reading books. Give me a good cereal box and I’m happy. Ok, maybe not a lot of cereal boxes these days but as a kid I loved it. I also loved reading the Encyclopedia. Does anyone remember encyclopedias?

8. I talk A LOT. Ask anyone who knows me!! I’m a sharer. I just get so excited to share something I know. I love to be able to connect to others with shared stories and ideas. I always feel bad when I take over a conversation, but I usually realize it too late. I can talk to anyone. I know a little about a lot and a lot about a little. I love this quote from Norman Lear when asked how he felt about his age (I think he was 93 at the time). “I think of myself as the peer of whoever I am talking to. If I was sitting here talking to a 12-year-old, I’d be 12. That’s the way I would feel.” This is exactly how I feel too.

9. I love music. If I don’t have music playing, I have a playlist playing in my head. I am often thinking in song lyrics. My first concert was The Monkees but I also say my first one was Depeche Mode which was about 4-5 years later. As much as I love music, I’m horrible knowing the names of songs and even band names.

10. I love clothes and accessorizing and shopping. I think everyone should have classic pieces in their wardrobe and homes but it’s so much fun to sprinkle in some personality and trendy pieces!! I love those POPS of color!! The personality of what I wear day to day changes. I usually dress according to my mood. I love to "window shop". It's fun to put outfits together and think about how to decorate a home.

11. I’m a crier. Happy, sad, frustrated, hurting, hormonal, I see someone else crying, Publix commercials (if you know, you know) .... Everything makes me cry. I feel A LOT and that’s how I get those feelings out. I used to apologize for it, but my husband once told me I should never apologize for feeling something. Love him!

12. I love a good “who done it” show or movie. I have developed mad “CSI skills” from these shows. I love to see how quickly I can figure out who the culprit is. Maybe a career for another life.

13. And because I like a good baker’s dozen - To quote Helena Bonham Carter “I think everything we do in life is Art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone. And how you talk. Your smile. And your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery lists. The food you make. How your writing looks, the way you feel. Life is Art.” Do you see art in your life?

If you made it all the way through, thank you, and I hope you had fun learning a little about me!!!

Love,

Katie
