"Feed Your Humanity"

ree

I grew up in Dunedin living right behind the Dunedin Community Center and Dunedin Fine Art Center. My art instruction started their in the 70's. I have memories of oil painting, ceramics and more. So many memories that showing in their galleries is extra special.

I submited my assemblage piece, "Feed Your Humanity", for their 2024 Dunedin Fine Art Center Student/Member/Faculty exhibit as a DFAC Member. The show ran from April 5, 2024 - May 19, 2024. At the opening reception, on April 12th, I received a Member Merit Award for my piece. I am honored to have my art recognized from an institution that means so much to me.

"Feed Your Humanity" is a mixed media assemblage piece. It started out with me building the head from a simple block base covered with 2-part Apoxy Sculpt to create the features. From there I found the vintage pieces to add details to the head and create the rest of the "body". I work intuitively and watch as the story and details build. It is rare for me to go in with a specific plan. So often the vintage pieces I find dictate where the story goes. This is why my assemblage pieces can take time to build and are one of a kind.

"Feed Your Humanity" is available for $600 +shipping

DFAC has different exhibits in their multiple galleries all throughout the year. When they opened in 1975, it was only 2000 square feet. Its now over 40,000 square feet and spreads over multiple locations. You can visit their website www.dfac.org to see their current and upcoming shows. Their main location is at 1143 Michigan Blvd., Dunedin, FL 34698.

I hope to see you there!

Love,

Katie
